Clutch’s” Strange Cousins From The West” Debuts in Billboard Top 40
“Strange Cousins From The West” Debuts in Billboard Top 40 * Exclusive Non-Album Track Available For Free Download at Pro-Rock.com!
The Maryland based band has amassed a substantial catalog that includes nine studio albums, five live releases, and a handful of EPs. What’s more, throughout the 90’s, Clutch’s hardcore-influenced, groove-heavy riff rock, helped define that decade’s stoner sound, while in the new millennium, their persistent hunger to expand their style brought them into the realms of traditional down-home blues and far-out psychedelic jams. - Revolver Magazine
Clutch are just like whisky. They get better with age and they both have their roots firm in blues, rock, funk and metal. Today sees the release of ‘Strange Cousins From the West’, the bands ninth studio release, and as is expected Clutch brings their big, riffy slap and this time they left the keyboards from ‘From Beale Street to Oblivion’ behind so the sound is open for the guitars to scream and the groove to dominate. - AOL Noisecreep
American Rock Band CLUTCH has done the improbable. The band’s ninth studio record is the first of their storied, road driven career to achieve Top 40 status on the Billboard Top 200 sales chart. The newly released “Strange Cousins From the West” landed a soundscan ranking of #38, with just under 14,000 units sold in it’s first week at retail. This is the the highest chart position of the band’s 18 year career. Even more incredible is the fact that “Strange Cousins From the West” is the first newly recorded Clutch project on the band’s self owned record label, Weathermaker Music. The band has previously recorded and released music through major label recording companies like Atlantic, Elektra and Columbia as well as independent labels like Earache, Megaforce, and DRT. In 2008, the band, along with longtime manager Jack Flanagan founded Weathermaker Music. Prior to Weathermaker, five of Clutch’s previous eight studio releases have cracked the Billboard Top 200 but none nearly as high as “Strange Cousins…” #38.
Weathermaker Music label manager Jon Nardachone credits Clutch’s tireless work ethic and a great team effort for the fantastic debut. “Really, it’s the 4 guys in the band who deserve all the credit” states Nardachone, “There’s no such thing as a shortcut with Clutch. These guys have climbed an epic rock & roll beanstalk branch by branch, never forgetting one fan along the way.” Nardachone also sites Weathermaker’s teaming up with RED Distribution as a proactive move as well. “Mainstream American retailers like Target & Best Buy now carry new Clutch product partly because of RED’s commitment to Clutch and Weathermaker Music.”
The band is celebrating recent events by giving some featured new music back to their fans. On Friday July 24th, Clutch and Weathermaker Music made available to their fans, the Free Download of a brand new unreleased song not contained on “Strange Cousins From the West.” Anybody with a valid email address can go to pro-rock.com/freesongweathermaker and listen to or download the song “Metroliner Special.” This featured Free Download is available until October 31st.
